who we are

Precise Communications was established in 2002 by Susan Hicks to offer writing, editing and proofreading services for businesses, authors and academics.

Projects completed include writing content for several national corporations in the natural product industry (subcontracted through a marketing strategist) and serving as content editor for publications in Florida’s Gulfcoast region, assigning writers and preparing copy for publication.

Susan has edited books in multiple genres, serving as developmental editor for a few authors by helping to organize material and images to present the intended message or story most effectively. She has worked with several small publishers and helped many independent authors, often working with designers to set manuscripts up for print and/or online publication.  

Susan’s background includes teaching English and speech in Florida high schools, and teaching and managing a one-room school for adjudicated delinquents in a well-established and successful program in Pennsylvania. She enjoys working with teenagers and is ready to support writers of all ages with writing skills tutoring and mentoring. 

Additional experience includes working in or serving on the board of multiple nonprofit organizations. Susan served as executive director for a child advocacy organization in southeast Oklahoma. She has worked in family and individual counseling, as well as in programs offering education and services related to family planning, domestic violence, child abuse, and drug-and-alcohol treatment. 

Susan earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Duquesne University and has continued her studies in humanities and communications.
